The Alexander Technique was developed by F.M. Alexander, an actor, as a means of improving his vitality, poise and performance on stage. Traditionally, actors, singers, musicians, sports people and dancers have used the Technique to improve their general "use". But because the Technique can be applied to all activities and improves the way you look, move, perform and feel its popularity is growing and its reputation spreading to the general population. It is a taught method and clients come for lessons rather than treatment.

Rationale behind the Technique
When we were young, as children, we moved with natural poise and grace, but as we get older we develop habits which affect our balance, co-ordination and ease of movement. It is difficult to change these habits because they feel "right". The result is that we develop postural problems, tension and pain and no longer look or feel at ease with the world.

The Alexander Technique seeks to address these undue tensions teaching clients to get in touch with their physical sense so they can begin to notice and inhibit their habitual tense patterns of behaviour and learn to think and move in a way which creates a sense of ease.
